Tūī are boisterous, medium-sized and common throughout most areas of New Zealand. They look black from a distance, but actually have a blue, green iridescence to their plumage. They are easily identified by the white tufts on their throats. Tui are usually very vocal and often seen perched atop the highest tree calling to their mates. The uppermost branch of your Christmas tree may be the perfect place for this decoration.
